Utterances outside my walls

A friend recently asked if my blogging had ended because I am no longer "trapped" inside my walls. And unfortunately the answer is probably yes.

I constantly accuse Glen of not being able to multi-task...(breaking every "man" rule), and while I was pointing my finger at him, the ones pointing back... found me. Going back to work has been a... well... uh... an experience. A whole new field, a whole new group of people, and a whole new set of likes and dislikes.

Health care is a challenge all it's own. And if ANYONE knows me, I lay down when one of the kids feel sick, because I just am not as good as I used to be about providing the TLC a mom should show. I used to be the BEST at it. When the kids were little, now they get the suck it up speech, and the I used to go to school with a fever of 108. So for these people that I deal with, they can be glad that my job has NOTHING to do with patient care. They would be so far up the creek... it wouldn't even be amusing.

Been toying with Facebook a little. LOVE seeing everyone's pictures and feeling a part of lives that I don't get to partake of on a regular basis. Need to be better about checking that too. Being back to working on a computer all day, makes it so I don't want to touch the laptop unless it is necessary.

Going on with us? Not a whole lot, Glen is still at Fidelity, Kelsey is making her way through 6th grade...first year in middle school. Caleb...well, he is enjoying the Abeka program. Not exactly my plan for "homeschooling" him, (I mean me going back to work), but it is working for us. When he tries to get by without doing his work, I threaten to send him back to public school and he straightens up pretty fast. He loves the flexibility, but also likes that he can focus on subjects that he enjoys. We are always busy. Seems like the only time we truly slow down is when it is a planned attempt to. Wish we had those more often, but for the time being... Things are good.

God is still on his throne, and I am grateful for the days that I allow Him to stay there in my life. When I lose track of my role in this life, and try to take over being the boss. I make myself pretty crazy. When I remind myself that I am just a vessel, emptied, filled and emptied again. Life is sweeter, joy is more fulfilling, things are just better.

Don't let today pass without thinking about where God resides in your life. Is He leading and guiding or are you dragging Him along on YOUR ride? I never forget that I am not above going through the trials of life, I just remember that I have a way that is higher and better than any that I can create. Choose today to walk that road. To know who holds our tomorrows and our today's, and rest in knowing that where ever or whatever we are in the middle of, it will be for our best. Making me the best I can be in Him.

Ever wonder how you got here?

So I thought that I was a good blogger. NOT too often that it was an obsession, but not so few that people could care less. Yeah, not so much, huh?

So for those who don't know, I have returned to the work force. Glen is still going through some changes with his job, and with the way the economy has changed recently, we didn't think it wise to be WITHOUT employment!!! :)

So for now, Caleb is home with my mom's supervision until all of the Abeka stuff comes in for him. Tried to talk KJ into leaving public school, but that little social butterfly isn't even entertaining the thought.

Things for us...have been busy. Fall always brings TONS of things to do, whether it be for us or for church, we move from one thing to the next trying our best to juggle life.

Just back from our Disney trip. LOVE IT, HAD a GREAT time!! Wish I could go more often...need to upload some photos. There were a few that I was proud to say I took.

Tomorrow night, Glen is teaching at church. 1st Weds all of the teachers get a rest, and we meet for family night. Ah....at least it is one thing I don't have to get all nervous about. One would think that the nerves would have calmed by now...YEAH...not so much. LOLOL

Getting crazy late, and I have to go to work in the morning!!!! BLAST this bad economy!!!!

Blessed!

Can you all tell that I have been in a FUNK for awhile? Even my sporadic blogging shows that I have just not been "myself" lately. I hate it! I can't tell you that I was doing anything different, but yet, I was not feeling as "victorious" as I was.

Ok, so let me break it down. I hate the "rat race" of summer. We spend our lives on the GO. And sometimes I THRIVE on it, others...it is just hard. Makes me feel uncomfortable in my own life. (And that is never a good feeling) So... today I take a stand. I am done feeling this way, and I am done allowing my mood to be one that reflects it.

How am I going to do that? First, I am making the decision to do it. Everything starts with a decision. So today, I choose to not let this yucky feeling keep me burdened anymore. The next part of this change is to remind myself of ALL that I have to be thankful for. And there is a TON of things. Family, friends, church, people who appreciate us, and aren't afraid to show us. Grateful for the opportunity to help others who may be hurting or going through a rough time even when you have a case of the "blues". (That was earlier this week) For an email of encouragement when you need one!

I guess in feeling this way for a while now, it hits me that if I choose to be different, I can make that happen. Let this post encourage you, if you want some situation to be different, you have to make a decision to do it. And then do it without waiting on someone else or something else to start the process of change for you. What is it that NIKE says..."JUST DO IT" Don't make it hard or overthink it. I guess that is where I get tangled up sometimes. Great intentions, POOR follow through. Today is the day of change for me. Time to refocus and keep the MAIN thing ...the MAIN thing! (PLEASE don't tell Glen I said that...that comes straight from one of his messages...) :)

Off to finish some of the 100's of projects that have been neglected!
Our love to all!!

Thursday...Love em!

Today the rest of the Keefer clan is in King's Dominion hanging upside down on a rollercoaster. Wish that I was there! But I doubt that spinning and looping and inverting this all ready dizzy head would benefit me...or them!

Anyway, We are busy lately. I am ready for a rest! Some of you know that we are heading to FL with our family in September. I need the rest, but I need time with people who I love. To just surround myself...(and my camera) with faces and people that I wish I could spend more time with. I think that is what I am looking forward to. Don't get me wrong...I'll be saying Hi to Mickey from all of you as well, but I am hoping for pictures that will commemorate a vacation that we will all remember as one of our best!

I don't see things slowing down... So much going on around here. Church seems to have kicked it up a notch. We are just really busy! Things around my house...just seem a little chaotic. And I can't quite put my finger on why. Maybe it is just me, but it seems like we always have somewhere to go. Or housework that needs to be completed... or SOMETHING. Maybe it is just Summer and once we get back to homeschool and KICK Kelsey back out, things will slow down.

Been working on some craft stuff, but alas, I have pictures of everyone else's projects, just not my own!!!

Sending each one our love in the HEAT of the NC summer!

I've been studying...

So many of you know that I teach the Ladies' meeting on Wednesday nights. I figure that I better blog about our lesson from last week because it has been rolling around in my mind...and weighing on my heart.

Maybe because I feel that time is short...maybe because I feel that we have to choose to be ready. CHOICE...what a HUGE word. I don't know that as Christians we grasp the meaning of the word in our lives. Eveything is a choice. While we may not be able to choose our circumstances, how we react is a choice. I can't say that my reactions have always been the right ones, but I am glad that I can say that I have learned from those mistakes, and they are forgiven.

So last week my lesson talked about me CHOOSING to be a ballerina. A prima ballerina. I told our ladies that I was going to show up on Sunday with a tutu, toe shoes... the whole nine yards. (Ok that visual should scare LOTS of you) But choosing to SAY that I am a ballerina, doesn't make me one. How many people do you know SAY that they are a CHRISTIAN, but then their lives or actions don't support that?

I choose daily to stay connected to the source of all that I believe. If I neglect to make that choice, I begin to wander in places that I don't belong.

...Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve,
... But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
- Joshua 24:15

So while we may not be able to choose all of our circumstances, and we may not be happy to be in the midst of them, we CAN choose our reaction to ALL of them.

Scrappin on Friday with some of the girls! I can't wait. I think that I have found a project that will keep my little hands busy.

I keep saying that I will post more...

And still I fail to do so.

We managed to go away for a few days. And Glen was able to go with us. We needed a break. And we had a good time. Sometimes just laying at the pool...with 4 little chairs all in a row. Sometimes laying in bed watching a movie. Just being together.

Do I sound like a broken record? Seems like I live for spending time with my family all under one roof? Maybe because I realize that it won't always be that way. There will come a time when the kids are off doing their own thing. And it will be just Glen and I. Can't tell you that I am looking forward to that, but I am really glad that I love Glen enough to want to grow old with him. Just the two of us.

Anyway...I have to get ready for my teaching tomorrow night. I think that I am going to spend the day on Thursday scrapbooking. I have a couple of things that I need to get finished. A couple of special projects that I need to complete and give as gifts.

Also coming up is the first Ladies Night Out that we have been waiting to start. I have been looking for something that we all could do, and I have a suggestion to make. Let's see what the ladies think about it.

Now on to a picture to share. This is from our day at the park. I was BEHIND the camera...where I belong. :)

If I get my project done, I'll post pictures of it later this week. I have been making the ribbons to finish it. I hope it comes out nice!!

Anyway...sorry to all of you who read daily...I have been neglecting you. Will try to do better!

I have already confessed...

to reading a LOT of blogs. I actually read them all through the day. When I am not on the run for church or family...or if I am not feeling well, I have been known to lay in bed with my laptop...reading. Sometimes reading and laughing, sometimes reading and crying.

I just wrote about being grateful for what God is doing in today and the need to stop looking backward with the "what-if's" of life weighing heavy on our minds.

I came across this blog a little while ago. I went back and started reading from the first post all the way to the most recent one. It just kind of put things in perspective for me. If I ever feel like a pity party about not feeling good, I can read what this family is dealing with and I can be grateful for the "sickness" that I am faced with today.

http://forleslie.blogspot.com/

All I am going to say is that if you read this...please do so with tissues close by. I don't know these folks, but my heart goes out to them. They are asking for prayer. And that is something that we all can do. To whisper a prayer daily for someone else. I don't know that there is anything more easy...it doesn't cost money. It isn't signing up for hours and hours of grovelling on bended knees. God knows their future or what they will endure. I pray for strength. I pray that whatever their tomorrow's hold, that they will be ready and will not lose hold of the hand that sustains them.

Today, I am grateful. Grateful for a STRONG tower. One that I can run into and be sheltered from the wind and rain of life. Some without faith would call it a "crutch". I would beg to differ. Hiding myself under the shelter of the Almighty, isn't pretending that the storm doesn't exist. It is understanding that I will be ok through it. NO MATTER what the outcome. Even when a heart of flesh is breaking, a heart of faith rises us and plants a foot in the next step God has ordained for us. Moving forward into whatever God has for us. Realizing daily that HE knows my name, He knows where I am, He knows what I need.

Wanted to share a picture for ya'll today. It is of my hubby. I love the efforts that he is making to spend some quality time with us. Have I told you recently how much I love this silly man?

Love you Glen Keefer! I am so glad that we have each other to navigate through life. God honors us for keeping this family on course. The course pointing toward what He has for us. That is all that I need. Keep doing what you are doing. It doesn't go unnoticed. NOT EVER!

HUGS! ^j^

Moments...

We took some time to be together yesterday. A moment to relax and just be US!

I can't say that I love this picture, but look at us. I think Kelsey was the only one trying to maintain a "picture" face. The rest of us lost it! Can you see that we are playful and that we LOVE each other? I can. I know what I was feeling as we were wrestling for space in the shot...lol. (Sorry we cut your body off Kel!) I love these guys...(and girl). Just a moment in time, but even more than that, it is a memory. One that we share!

I have to tell you that my choice has always been to ENJOY what God has given me. And lately, I have been reminded that there are people who constantly dwell in what they don't have. While we aren't rich, nor do we have the "finer things" of life, but I have something that SO many would pay a lot of money to have. And I wouldn't trade it... NOT for anything this world could give me.

Be grateful for the things that God has blessed you with. Stop looking at the pieces that are missing. Is my life picture perfect, NAH! There are things that I hold on for... that I know God is working in. But it is kind of like this picture... I can't go back and retake it, I can't look at yesterday and say it could have been so much better. Instead, I can see this imperfect picture and remember the love and laughter that we shared. To dwell on what was, is to miss what tomorrow might be! If we are so busy living life looking in the rear view mirror, we can miss the blessing and the glory that God is showing us today! Stop using situations that happened last year or twenty years ago as an excuse or a reason to stay angry. I learned years ago that it really doesn't effect anyone BUT you!

I am going to try to share more pictures that we go to take. I have been told that it makes those of you who are far away feel closer. That is the best part of blogging! The people that I hold dear, (even if I don't get to talk to you daily) You see us, you know where we are... if I am on a mountain or struggling to climb out of the valley.

I figure that it has been a week...

So I better update my blog.

You have to know that when I don't update it...I get yelled at. Glen fussing about not knowing what is going on in my brain...friends that request new pictures... SOMETHING! I have to tell you that blogging can be exhausting. The stress about what part of my life I need to expose for the world to see. Decisions...decisions....

Let's start with the everyday stuff. Bryan stopped by today with Ethen Michael. He didn't even make it INTO my house before I ran out the door with camera in hand. Here are a couple of shots that I managed to get. He is such a sweet BOY!

I have been "scrapbooking (paper crafting)" a lot... seems like with more pictures to choose from, the ability to be creative comes so much easier. So Kelsey and I have spent loads of time stamping and working on some fun projects. Centerpieces for today, and we still have the favors for an upcoming party to work on. I think staying busy being creative helps me feel better.

Let's see, we were missing several of our ladies on Weds. But the lesson was about God's glory. As part of our discussion we talked about what God's glory is. And I came to the conclusion that it is more than we can imagine. We talked about His glory being his presence... but several scriptures point out different meanings of the word glory. If that is the case then we don't need to try to explain or wrap our human minds around God concepts. We need to dedicate ourselves to seeking to KNOW more of God, understanding the depths of his love... his forgiveness, his mercy... and still today people think of God as a tyrant waiting to strike humans down.
I have challenged our ladies to dig deeper, to seek out the things that keep us from moving forward. There are people who have a form of "godliness" but they deny the parts that force them to purge things from their own hearts. God forbid we stay in that place.
Ok back to my family. Kids are doing well. They have a couple of weeks to relax. Kelsey has taken up riding her bike daily with her grandma. Caleb has been down at my dad's house helping with the shed that he is building. Little do they know, that the summer reading and writing assignments will begin shortly. Shhh...don't tell...they may try moving to my Mom's house.
Be blessed!

I guess I better keep you in the loop.

So many of you know that I have been doing our Weds night bible study in the Ladies meeting. I chose a Beth Moore book, but I am not teaching it straight from the book. We have a beautiful range of women. Some that are new in church some have been there longer than I have been alive. So sometimes prepared lessons don't really work well.

We are talking about Benefits and Obstacles in our Christian walk. The first one that we dealt with is knowing God. The scripture that we used talked about knowing God with more than just a book knowledge. The original Hebrew word used implies a "familial" knowledge. The way that a wife knows her husband. Do we know God with that kind of intimacy? The same kind of closeness?

The obstacle that goes hand in hand with that is unbelief or doubt. What hit me in teaching this is that this doesn't only mean the kind of doubt that means we have turned our back on God. We can sit in church for years and not know God. We need to come to a place that we know WHO God is. His character doesn't change. So if we know that God is the same yesterday, today and forever like Hebrews tells us, then we should know that God who delivered the Israelites out of captivity, and rescued Noah & family from the flood, and sustained Job as Satan tried him, and sent Jesus, his Son... is the same God who is concerned about our situations and circumstances.

All a matter of TRUST. A big word in a christian walk. How many things in our lives affect our willingness to trust? A loss or betrayal can scar us. A broken heart that was never "REALLY" mended acts as a spiritual handicap. And let’s be honest, trusting an invisible God doesn’t really come naturally in our world. We can only grow in trust by taking chances. To step out in NEW places, that we haven’t been before. It is through EXPERIENCE that we grow in this area.

Have you stepped out into places that are unsure? Or do we go kicking and screaming when situations cause us to be "uncomfortable"? Take it from the girl who has been uncomfortable for a while! It is why Satan uses FEAR. It freezes us from walking out into those places where TRUST shows up.

I challenged our ladies to start thinking about the things or the people that keep them from growing in trust. We have a creator that wants us to serve with reckless abandon. Not holding on to the things that impede us from growing and fulfilling our purpose. Oh and by the way, I don't care what Oprah says... Or Scientology... Or what the New Earth says...or the JUNK the new age movement is trying to instill in our kids and society. The highest calling that we can ever attain is knowing God. There is no higher "purpose" no matter how noble the cause may seem to be.

That is enough out of me tonight! Phew!

Looks like we are going to get the scrap girls together AGAIN! I am ready. I have a couple of projects that I need to do...and then back to working on MY albums!

HUGS to you all!!

Raising kids.... continued

Many of you know that I am a "blurker".

I read blogs. LOADS and LOADS of them. Some are about being creative. I love those! But I also read several "Christian Women" blogs. All kinds...some about parenting...some about our christian walk. It is crazy the number of blogs that I lurk on.

So I have been reading about parenting, and I started giving you my two cents about that on my last post. So I am going to take a step back and tell you where this started.

I was reading a blog that is updated by the lady with the Pokemon cards that ended up on ebay? Do you remember that making national news? She ended up selling a $4 pack of cards for over $140 because of parents supporting her decision not to let her kids get away with sneaking them into the groceries at the store. She is a stay at home mom with 6 kids. Her blog is all about the insanity that she lives with 6 kids at home! She is hysterical.

I have read the gamut about parenting advice. And quite honestly, I don't pretend to be a parenting expert. All I know is that I have arrived in the "teen" years without any emotional broken bones or breakdowns. I believe that children are a heritage from the Lord. We as parents have been given the most awesome gift imaginable. To be entrusted with GOD's most precious creation. It is mind blowing. I believe that we need to shape and mold them. And teach them the things that God would have us to.

The bible tells us to "train up a child in the way they should go, and when they are old, they will not depart". Some people believe that this is allowing them to "find" their own way. No! That isn't what it means. It means that we are vocal and CONSISTENT in raising our children. Teaching them by EXAMPLE of what is expected out of them. The virtues and the admonitions that God has laid out for each of us is what we are supposed to instill in our kids.

I have had the pleasure of befriending some really great Moms. Erin, your kids demonstrate in their actions that you have made them feel important. They show it in the way they treat the "little" kids that are around. EVEN when they would rather be doing something else. Logey, you are consistent. STAY that way! If we waiver or choose to "get lazy" in raising kids, we will reap the heartache of not stepping up. Bonnie, you are focused always looking for quality ways to share your time with your daughter, even when you need a breather! She will always remember the time and effort you took to share special things with her. Patti...I couldn't forget you either! Your kids...well... just in emails that I exchange with them. #1- They love the Lord. #2- They have a characteristic that I admire SO much. They talk to adults. by realizing that they bring something to the conversation. They love to laugh... and their parents have taught them the things of the Lord and the moral compass written on their hearts always points due north. You should be SOOO proud of the quality of character that you have instilled in them.

This isn't a post about perfect kids. It is about PARENTS who are hands on. INVOLVED... and REALISTIC. That when your child is not where they need to be...you know it ...and start taking the steps to correct that action before it becomes an issue of character. Parents be challenged to NOT choose the lazy way out. Our children will not raise themselves. If you are so focused on YOUR needs and YOUR issues.... your children will suffer the consequences. Matthew chapter 5 outlines the Beatitudes. THESE are the characteristics that will carry our kids into being GREAT adults... the future of our churches, the future of our country and the legacy that we leave.

For anyone struggling to parent, don't give up. Don't think that you can "leave them to their own devices and they will find the way" Dig your heels in, decide that with God's help you will do your best by them. Teaching them God first, Others second, and then their own needs...

The things don't take the place of boundaries. Indulging them only teaches them that THEY are more important than others. Let your own actions mirror the qualities that we want to see in them some day. And do it daily... day in and day out. And when we make a mistake...admit it and move on with the same determination.

I heard this song and had it sung at Kelsey's dedication over 11 years ago. Because this truly is one of the prizes that I am pressing for! Here is just one part of it! Hope it speaks to that place in you that says... the best is yet to come!

Cradled in my arms I held you
and I loved you more with each day passing by
Sharing joy, sharing pain
through the sunshine and the rain
I can’t believe it’s time to say goodbye
I don’t know what the future brings you
But I hope that you’ll keep Heaven as your goal
For we’ve taught you how to pray
we made sure you knew the way
so remember my request before you go

Just be there-
When I finally make it home
and I stand before the throne
Just be there -
When I look around to see
If you are standing next to me
Just be there

No...I am still here.

It isn't that I don't have a whole lot to talk about... it is really a matter of feeling "up" to sitting at the computer while I read and reread...always trying to be sure that what I say actually makes sense.

You'll be happy to know that the stomach virus that had the Keefer house captive, has left the premises. YEAH!! We have cleaned and sanitized and now are ready to start SUMMER. Kelsey Jeanne has another few days of school. So next week, I'll be home with BOTH of the Keefer kids. Look out Raleigh. We will be around taking pictures and doing some fun things this summer but will be staying close to home because GAS prices are CRAZY!

Our youth group had a yard sale last week to raise money to go Kingsfest. King's Dominion's version of "christian day at the amusement park". They did a great job...they worked together and raised almost $500 after all was said and done. I was so proud of them. Some kids are trouble makers. We really don't have any like that! They get along, they worked together, and made it a nice day to spend "working" at the church.

Here are a couple of pictures:

This is a little brother who came to help his older siblings raise some money for their trip. I think that he was what drew the crowds that we saw! Owen... he is a cutie!

I suppose that I should "retouch" some of my photos. But this one of Caleb, didn't need a whole lot. One would think that he spent some time in braces with those teeth...but he gets that from his MOMMA! Everything else...yeah....that is his daddy!!! Anyway, I thought this picture was a keeper! And yes, it is from the yard sale! My kids are ready to pose at a moments notice. LOVE THAT BOY! Speaking of Daddy....

He spent the day keeping a watchful eye on the crew. Can I say something about my husband? First... I love him. Second, he is unlike so many of the clergy that I have known through the years. He works full time... He pastors CFC... he took on the youth group on. They needed a leader...he decided that he would fill the position for now. He is a hands on worker. Sometimes to a fault, because he tries to do TOO much with the "extra" time that he has. (Let's just say, that we aren't winning any awards for the landscaping or the lawn color in our neighborhood) He isn't sitting at some head table barking orders. He isn't wired that way. I have had conversations with other ministers and wives, they seem to have an attitude of "deserving".

Here are my two cents about that. If we were given what we "deserve" by God, how many of us would still be alive? None, I fear. If I can be behind the scenes with my hands dirty with the tasks I have, so be it. My husband... is just that kind of pastor. He lives out Christ's example of bending to be a servant even when your "title" says you don't have to. I know that my parents taught us to serve others. To esteem them higher than ourselves, I am so glad that I married a man whose Christian leadership taught him that as well. When it is ingrained in us to be "do-ers", serving as an adult becomes very easy.

I pray that our kids have learned that lesson. My kids are not indulged. Some think that as pastor's kids, they would be. They are VERY compassionate. I have heard so many cute stories about other people's kids. I could tell a million about my kids as well, but show me kids that are well behaved, polite and don't have "typical" attitudes...and I'll show you parents that have done a GREAT job.

Ok...I'll leave the rest of that for my next post!

Our love

Wednesday is always a good day....

I should start this post by saying that *most* Wednesday's are good. I use the day to prepare my final thoughts for what I am going to share with the Ladies in our small group meeting. And the book that I have been using as a guide line has been really good so far. I love it when that happens. You know, when having something to say isn't an effort because you can identify with your teaching materials.

Tonight's lesson is a continuation in the study of Israel's relationship with God during the time of Isaiah. But it finishes in a really great place of soul searching. Our journal work for the upcoming week will be an examination of areas of our own life that we are still held captive by.

In this study, the word captivity is synonymous with the word bondage. What holds you back? What keeps you from realizing the best that God has for you? We are going to talk about issues in our past, issues of never feeling worthy or good enough, the issues of legalism that have crept into the hearts of so many Christians. Christ came to set everyone free. The bible is clear that God wants none of us to perish without coming to the saving knowledge of Christ. According to the scripture, Christ came as an ambassador of the HEART condition of men, not as the political figure that the Jewish people were looking for. Or to remove from us every trial in life.

"CHRIST came to set ALL captives free, no matter what yoke binds them
HE came to bind the broken hearted, no matter what broke their heart
He came to open the eyes of the blind, No matter what has veiled their vision."

We need to stop placing limitations on what God can heal and remove and cause restoration in. It is time as Christians we stop trying to qualify who is "good" enough. And rather than click our tongues with the words, "I told you so", we should hurt for those who have fallen away or choose to stand on the sidelines forever a voyeur of life. I am sure that if we could see the lives of those around us through Jesus eyes for just a moment, we would be forever changed. Transformed by the grace and mercy that God is so quick to show after repentance.

Wonder how many in church today carry around the "secret" things that they hide from the outside world? Maybe out of fear of judgment, maybe out of fear of rejection, maybe because they tried to share it once before and that didn't go over so well. Whatever the reason...God knows. Now if I can just keep remembering that there is no difference in God's love toward each of us. God doesn't love me 3x more than someone else because I was obedient last week. God's love is the same for each of us. So what are OUR issues that hold us back from accepting that fully? There is the real question. God isn't in heaven opening and closing the spigot on his love depending on who is underneath the flow. The question is why do we CHOOSE not to stand under it completely? Why is just getting our feet wet enough, or for some, why is just getting up to our knees wet, OK?

Enough, enough...I know. But when you have one of those moments that helps you to realize that NONE of us have arrived yet... You just want to tell it!

Blessings!!!

Erin...this post is for you!!

We had a Memorial Day picnic at my Mom and Dad's house today. And the subject of blogging came up. My friend, (and partner in MOST crimes) Erin said that she starts her day by reading the news and our blogs with her morning coffee. Needless to say this post is for HER!!! I didn't want her to start work on Tuesday morning without something new to READ!! (Sorry Erin, I know that you are not usually about a picture, but there are tons of people who don't know who you are!!)

I had a great time at the picnic, the big kids were too cool to hang with us, so once they ate, they were GONE...off to play with the Wii at my house or to walk and talk among themselves. The little kids played with a slip and slide that my friend Bonnie brought. It was fun watching them...of course I sent for my camera.

Below you will see Bonnie's daughter, Chloe. The next two are Lealer's smallest kids, Dayton and Heather. Last is Logey's little girl Hannah. I think each of them was grateful for that splash of cool water on a warm summer day!!!

We ate, and laughed and laughed and ate. Joyce brought her famous desserts. I just enjoy days like that. When you can let your hair down, and relax. There were a few spouses missing, some had to work, but a few of the guys managed a good game of horseshoes... (and this was the "young team?!?) LOL

Now on to things upcoming... We started our study last week in the ladies Weds night group. I have been in very prayerful about these teachings. I spend a lot of time preparing, and while I still feel very inadequate in teaching, I pray that the ladies will learn and grow with me through them. So we are using the journals that they made a couple of weeks ago!!

With school coming to a close pretty quickly for Kelsey, we are hoping to get a little more "fun" stuff in with my kids. Let's see if blogging will be a more "regular" part of my week!!! (I know, I know...not been really good about it lately )

Be on the look out for new posts...coming soon and more frequently!!! :)

Hugs to all of you!

Proud of our Ladies

So I took a project with me for our ladies group to do. These is a varied bunch of girls, of all ages, all backgrounds. And Me, being the crafter that I am, always manage to take something for them to. Usually things that I like to do.

Well, I took a project of altering a journal for our upcoming series on Wednesday nights. I had a blast. I also have to tell you, some being anti-crafters, they did a GREAT JOB! Their journals looked GREAT!!!! I even got a call saying how much fun it was, and how they thought ALL of the ladies enjoyed it. (Again, wish I had taken my camera, would love to have a picture to share.)

But because I had to take loads of stuff all ready, the camera was low on the list. Thank you CFC ladies, I appreciate that you are willing to try something new! That you will do your best even when your crazy leader comes up with this stuff!!!

Anyway, Glen and I are looking for a little time away. Maybe another day, maybe a one night get away. I can see when I look at him that he is tired. He needs rest, but I am not talking about sleep. I mean REST. Where he can shut his brain down!!! Hopefully, I can dream up something that is reasonably priced, but with enough scenery changes that he can feel at ease.

Thought that I would share a couple more photos of our day together. Hard to believe that was a week ago. I miss you today, Glen Keefer. Looking forward to family night tonight. I don't care if it is popcorn and a movie at home...so long as you are here with us!

Doing Better!!

So here I am...almost 11 pm.

Glen is watching some show about the universe on the science channel. Most husbands watch sports on the edge of the chair yelling at the TV, not my husband. Even better, He chooses an "educational" show about the universe, and then fusses about EVERYTHING that contradicts the bible. I offered to put on a craft show....but that didn't go over very well~ :)

We have been focused on the house for the last few days. Last week, I was really not feeling well. And my HOUSE showed it. I still get to the point of vomiting if I bend and do too much, so everything , including housework, is accomplished is in stages. Things are "better", but we haven't arrived yet. So the rest of this week, we'll keep moving forward, and toward a more orderly version of our home. Even today, my plans of going to the library, and then to pick up some last minute supplies for a project for our ladies to do in our meeting, were derailed by not feeling well.

After medication and a nap, we managed a nice dinner, (Thanks to Glen!!) And we all ate at the table TOGETHER! This is something new that we are trying. We are doing our best to be sure that we sit together and make the time to be a family. I like the comfortable feeling that comes with being deliberate about spending our time together.

On another note, Glen preached his Mother's Day message. I love it when he moves away from the "reminder" notes that he keeps in front of him. He is not keen on holiday messages, but this one was VERY good. I don't think that he has ever used the scripture found in Proverbs 23.

13 Don’t fail to discipline your children.
They won’t die if you spank them.

So many have asked me about my relationship with my kids. I am the first one to tell them. I am reaping the benefits of years of HARD work. Glen and I standby consistency as the number one reason our kids are pretty good. So many times, we didn't want to spank, or punish, or ground them, but because it was the right thing to do, we were quick to follow through. We kept our word. So many people that we know have lost control, and their kids are still in preschool or the first years of elementary school. Kids that back talk, that have attitudes, that throw temper tantrums. Now, I am NOT talking about a tired child who is acting out because of some occasional melt down. I am talking about parents who feel that they need to overindulge, overstimulate, and focus on the "easy" way out when it comes to parenting.

We are raising the next generation. If we teach them at 3 to focus on themselves and satisfying their needs before others, WHAT are we doing to our future? I thought Glen's message was great. And even better, I know that he has lived everything he taught from the pulpit!

Tomorrow is our ladies meeting. My mom has finished her teaching, so this week, I begin teaching. I am looking forward to the next couple of months. I am praying that this will be a great time of learning and growing for the ladies of CFC. I have a couple of ideas that I want to start with them. Things that will allow us to grow closer to God, to our families and to each other.

Universe show is over, and FoodTV is a repeat, the Reverend is off to bed, and I am going to join him.

Love you all!!

So I forgot to tell ya'll...

A couple of weeks ago, Calvary Faith had a baptism service. Here is a peek at who got baptised!

Don't do a double take. That isn't a double image of Glen. That is a picture of Glen baptising our son, Caleb. We had asked Caleb to wait to be baptised until he was sure that following Christ was what he wanted to do. I was so proud of him. This is one of those times when you know you are doing a good job raising kids. There were 5 people that took that next step of faith. Each of them very special.

We also got to take our first official "Keefer Day". We took the kids and spent the whole day together. Went to see a movie, we walked and laughed together ALL day. After a week of being REALLY under the weather, it was wonderful. Not only to have the kids, but Glen with us too. (Have I mentioned that I love him?) ;o)

Took along my handy dandy camera...and while I am behind the camera 99.9% of the time. We wanted to shoot something we could frame for Mother's Day. Here is the one that I have decided on.

Can't really say this is a nice picture of me. And the breeze was blowing... (I don't choose to wear my hair all over the place) But it captures us. THE KEEFERS, and that was what I wanted to do. We looked ridiculous carrying the tripod and the camera bags...and all of the other things that were necessary. I even got tickled with us. Not to mention the lawn crew was out there working. I think we gave them a show as well. Embarrassing, I sure it is what my kids will say about me after I am gone. "Our Mom was embarrassing."

I hope that in taking the time to be WITH them. They know how much they are loved. That they aren't alone in ANYTHING. Their daddy and I will not only correct and coach them into adulthood, but that we will laugh and play with them as well.
I would hope that is my lasting legacy, a realization that our kids are our first ministry. Before "church", before the needs of others, our kids needs have to be a priority. And I am not talking about indulging them to a fault. I am talking again about the intangible things. Hopefully the memories of days like today, where mom crawled through fresh cut grass, or stood in a ditch or blew a bubble with them. And that Dad loved them enough to set aside EVERYTHING that he has going on to spend the quality time that I know he has missed.

I leave you with that thought. Our children are our legacy. The quality of character, the words they speak, the attitudes they have. All a reflection on us. I pray when people look at my kids, they realize in being preacher's kids, perfection is not what we are striving for. They are imperfect, but lovable, and forgiving, and sweet, and sacrificial in the time they have to share their dad.

Here is one more look at our day!!

Our love to ALL of you!!

Did you think that I disappeared?

So I have been MIA for over a week. That hasn't happened in a LONG time. But what a week. I haven't really been sitting and using a computer much at all except to look at spreadsheets of the luau preparation information.

I don't think that we have worked as hard as we did with the luau prep and execution. But we have never had such a large crowd turn out for a church social. My thanks to each and everyone that helped with preparation. I love you all!! For Joyce, Bonnie, Sis Jefferies, my friend, Michelle and her hubby, Tom. For my mom, and Glen... all of the ladies that came out to help us decorate...and the whole crew that helped clean up! I appreciate all of your effort. And I love it when a plan comes together, and this one wouldn't have with out these people !

I am hoping that one of the ladies, Lealer, was able to capture some pictures...because I was too busy to shoot my camera even once! And now you know that we must have been busy if I didn't use my camera even once.

Anyway, enough about what we did...next is what is up coming. And I can't tell you that I am ready for the next gathering, but it can't hurt to start thinking about it. :)

So I got my reservation information for our Disney World trip this week. My kids are so excited about this one. I guess because it has been awhile since we have been there, and the other is because my parents are going too. This is just a portion of our traveling crew, there will be several other family and friends that will be there. So exciting. I am hoping for a relaxing time...but one with lots of good memories. (No worries, I'll be sure to have the camera and USE it!)

Glen and I were looking for maybe a few days away between now and then. I find it can be frustrating for both of us to miss out on some "alone" time. Some would question, "If you have been married for so long, why do you need that kind of time?" But I really do. I need time to be a couple. We are working to set aside time every week to be the Keefers. I am tickled that he still loves me enough to do that for our future!

On a completely different subject...He and I had a discussion the other night. And it went something like this...

(Jodi) "Why can't you just stick up for me?"
(Glen) " I will when you are right"
(Jodi) "Can't you just say that I am right and be my support?"
(Glen) "Not when you are wrong."

Ever try to convince yourself that you are right...even when in your heart of hearts you KNOW that you are wrong? I was there! And my husband wouldn't support me in it! I have watched SO many people try to justify their actions, try to say "Well, bless God, that is the way that I was born" Or that it the way that I was raised... Or I didn't have (____) so I can't (____). (You can fill in these blanks)

My kids used to sing this little song when they were small...

Excuses, excuses, I hear them every day.
And the Devil he'll supply them, if from church you stay away.
When people come to know the Lord, the Devil always loses
So to keep them folks away from church, he offers them excuses.

If I am being honest, there are times in life when it is so much easier to "mail it in" Not work through whatever has a "bee in your bonnet" Do you think that anything gets solved that way? I am learning everyday...that it doesn't! It just puts off the inevitable. Either a melt down, or a confrontation that could be avoided.

I would love to tell you that I was right. But my attitude was so bad, even I could smell it! I was SO wrong...and there was my beloved... reassuring me that I was WRONG.

Anyway, my life lesson for this busy week. To focus on self is a bad thing. Even when you think that someone else's actions have warranted it. If the words that come out of your mouth are "I, I , I , I , I... " Then your issues are bigger than one mis-step in your Christian walk. I was reminded one more time that I am called to focus on MY feet. To watch my steps, not to look to the left or right....but to be sure that JODI is doing what she is supposed to.

LOL... Yeah I know...would have thought that I learned this lesson all ready. It is amazing how quickly we can fall into the "same old stuff"

Getting late, waiting for Glen to get home from one of those crazy Monday shifts. I'll be better about posting. (Or at least, I'll try!!!)

Our love

Friday?

I don't know exactly where the week goes. But it seems like I was just getting ready to start a new week, and now I am preparing for the weekend. I don't think we have a "slow weekend" for a couple of months. The older generation used to say, when we were kids, that time moves faster as we get older. It really DOES! I start everyday with a list, and it is a rare occasion that the list is totally complete. I have learned that this is ok, but I still struggle sometimes with that nagging feeling to be sure that everything is completed.

Changing topics completely, I have a confession. I have become addicted to rubberstamps! (I am sure that Glen may be planning an intervention with all those I love.) But I don't know if I am going into therapy to stop. My mom has said that even she enjoys making cards with me. So maybe I can say that the $$$ I have spent on this addiction is "a quality family time" investment? (Going to have to put some kind of spin on it.)

I also need to start sending more cards. Only problem is WHEN do I have time to stamp? I have a WHOLE room in my house set aside for crafting and unfortunately I don't even get in there very often. Occasionally a friend will ask for help with some project or something...and I get excited because I KNOW that I have everything that they will need to complete any craft project imaginable. I told you... it is WAY over the top.

This weekend isn't any different than our normal. We are overbooked and over scheduled. And that seems to be the American way of life. So that makes us "normal"

For those of you who are wondering how Caleb is doing in home school, he is doing well. The concepts are seemingly easy for him to grasp, but getting him to write something...UGH, BOYS! It is like pulling teeth. I guess that I am shocked that he is going into 9th grade with an inability to write coherently. I know that in the business world he will need the ability to communicate via succinct, clear email. So that is one skill that he and I will work on throughout the summer! Poor kid, thought that homeschooling would be easy for him. Little did he know that summer would be the time we do our best to tackle writing.

Other than that... I'll have an update later this weekend. I have been reading a book called Breaking Free, Discovering the Victory in total Surrender. If you had told me a couple of years ago that I would be reading something other than a fictional novel of some kind, I would have LAUGHED at you. Other than a daily devotion... I WOULD always choose a fictional novel. Now I find myself being drawn to "fill up" with something new that will allow me to "be" better. To make better decisions... To be a better mom... To be a better wife... I guess to be a better Jodi.

With Christ's help, and as I yield the controls...I know that there is coming a time when my "knee jerk" reactions will even honor God. I guess that is one of my "immediate" goals. In my walk, I see that there are times when this is easy, times of danger, or worry. But, I have witnessed that I struggle when I feel someone attacking my family, or someone that I love. That the gloves come off at times. Leaving me to have to apologize after the dust has settled. But that is a whole other post!!! And this one is LONG enough.

Love to you all!!!

Just had to share

So tonight I am not pondering the deeper things. I didn't make it to church this morning. We had quite a storm here Saturday night. Didn't last long, but it was lightning with thunder right on top. (Anyone who knows me knows that storms and I just don't get along very well.) Needless to say a disrupted sleeping night, left me extremely groggy and just miserable this morning.
Part of what I am learning, as I have been sick, is to not push myself too hard. I was gone ALL day on Saturday at the church. From 10am to 10 pm. And when I wake up feeling that bad, there are times when I can't even communicate clearly...so I stayed home... (and I hate missing church) so I guess I am a little down.

Thank goodness my mom rang me on her way home, knowing that I was really bad off, she offered to make lunch. Don't know if I mention it enough, she is very good to me. I try to reciprocate as often as possible. She and my daddy show their love daily. I just need to remember to thank them that often!

So on to the reason I am even posting. We have lived in this house for several years. 3 years now. Every spring, I drive by the baptist church just up the road from us. Along side this church are 2 Dogwood trees that are growing together; one pink and one white. It makes such a beautiful scene after a winter of no color.

So I have intended to take pictures of my family with this amazing color in the background. Never materialized. And just when I am ready to take the picture...a rain storm steals my color. All the petals lying on the ground. I didn't let it slip by for one little girl! I took Kelsey Jeanne up there this weekend, and took some pictures of her. Here are a couple of them...

So I don't consider myself a "photographer". Please don't think that sharing these is about looking at technique or anything. I am totally a "picture taker" I love the memories. To me a picture is a "remember when" moment. I need to be better about taking more everyday shots. Being a scrapbooker, you would think that I would do that. But for some reason, I am more often out somewhere...wondering, "Why don't I have my camera with me?"

Poor Kelsey, I carted her off on this morning. I don't think she was ready for pictures. She probably would have spent another 20 minutes playing with her hair..or applying a little bit of makeup...but that wasn't the Kelsey that I was looking to capture. It is in these pictures with the delicate flowers, you can see the little girl... the one who is on her way to womanhood, but hasn't arrived yet. Fully girl...with a touch of tomboy... And well loved by all! My helper, sometimes my mini-me in more ways than one... (we are praying about that attitude!! LOL)

Know I love you sis! You are a sweet girl...don't lose your way by listening to others. God has given you a good head on your shoulders. It isn't about what you wear, or the way your clothes fit...it is about Jesus love shining through all of the other stuff. Let him SHINE!

What a week!

So I missed my Thursday night post. I called out for it too. I was issued some new medication that is allowing me to get some SLEEP! (Thank goodness!!!) But one of my dearest friends has warned...that while she would like me to be well rested...the blogging doesn't need to be missed! So I better start posting earlier or we could go months until I post again.

I have been very intentional about avoiding prescription medicines to keep the side effect roller coaster to a minimum. This sleep aid though... has been a God send! Thanks to the folks who look out and take good care of me. I slept last night for the first time in months. I woke up this morning, a little groggy, but feeling better than I have in a LONG time. I am praying that getting back into the routine of sleep will allow me to resume a little more normalcy.
Also on the up side, I got to take care of our baby today! That boy... I love every inch of him. I also like to watch my Caleb with him. One would think that Kelsey would be all about a baby, but it is Caleb who wants to hold him and talk to him. I think Kelsey is still really scared of him. She loves him and wants to shop for cute things and such... but until he is a size where he can toddle, I think she keeps her distance. (I know, I know, Keeferkids have been very sheltered when it comes to taking care of kids... actually there are lots of things that they just haven't experienced) I was doing what I do when he is with me...snapping pictures of him...when I captured one that I just had to share!

How many mommies would love to get a little kissyface like this when they have to be at work all day! I know that it would make me feel better...so I sent it to each of his parents with the subject line *MWAH* Because that face is a kissable one!!
What else...
Things are pretty good. Busy... I guess with the weather breaking. Causes the need for yard work, and more get togethers that we are invited to. Add that to our already busy schedules and we are a train wreck waiting to happen! LOL We are currently planning a family vacation...because my dear husband has not had a FULL week's vacation since we started Calvary. We are going to visit my big-eared boyfriend in Orlando this fall! WHOO HOO...
My kids have expressed that they wanted to go with my mom and dad for a year or so now. My dad has decided that this is the year. They are SO excited! (me too, but don't tell) Start praying for me now. I would love to be able to enjoy Disney (rides and all). I know that God is more than able, question will be "am I ready to move through this test and come out better than I used to be?" Learning to wait patiently on His time and in His way. TRYING to not allow the things that would have normally blown me WAY off course to do that anymore. Realizing that He is worthy of ALL praise, when I feel like it or not. And that no matter what the situation appears to be, there is a spiritual lesson in it for me to learn.
Wait on those lessons. Look for those lessons. It has been a resounding theme in my blogging lately. LOOK closely to see that God is in the middle of our toughest times. Right there... teaching us to lean a little heavier...to rest a little deeper... to learn that the things of this life can not contain the spirit man. If we choose to not be beaten by the trials...we have learned a valuable thing. Perhaps in learning to lay down the flesh that is sick or hurting or battle scarred..and to TRULY pick up his cross daily, allows us to become the reflection of his Glory that we were called to be.
Oooohhh... I am off to bed... & it is only 9:30! YEAH!!!

Sunday night wind down

Ahhh... The hubbub of Sunday is now slowing, and it is time for bed. Been a BUSY day. Sunday's are always busy, but this one just seemed exceptionally busy. Glen conducted a meeting of his ministry leaders to be sure we are all on "the same page." It was very productive, but a meeting after church means that everyone needs to eat! So my mom...(love her) made LOTS of meatloaf, Joyce made her famous garlic mashed potatoes with green beans. I provided rolls and drinks...and then helped make dishes and serve.

Even bigger than that is the luau preparation that is underway. I am looking forward to that fellowship! Wanted to have one for a while, but didn't really want to under take that without lots of help. Thank God, he has sent us some real workers. They are working diligently! Love it when a plan comes together. Get your hula ready... CFC is going to Hawaii!

Any how... Back to my life...

Spent Saturday heading to a shopping trip with my brother, sister in law, and their sweet boy! I love Bry and Dawn... But Ethen is my favorite. (don't tell them!!) Every time his daddy talked to him, that baby smiled all over himself! And when his mommy had him, he was as good as gold. It doesn't matter how little they are, they know who they belong to. Hmmrph...I guess that is why I have to stand on my head and blow bubbles at him... to make him smile at me!!

Our driver for the day, was one of my BFF's, Logey. After we hit the kid's clothing sale, Logey and I headed to take in a couple of the new neighborhoods in the area. Logey's family is looking at homes... and praying for God's will for their family. They are ready to buy a new home, but they want what God has for them, and they are waiting for that to be crystal clear. One thing that I am sure of, God will only honor them in their patience.

We didn't stamp one thing...not even a little bit of crafting happened on Sat. Even with that...I had a great day!

I think that I should post something about my VERY best friend. Some of you may know him. I married him almost 16 years ago. I thought that I could never love someone they way that I loved Glen Keefer at 17 years old. And do you know what I have learned? Compared to my love for him today, I didn't know anything back then. He is truly my second half. We are each other's compliment. Does he make me crazy... YEP... Do I want to pull my hair out some days... SURE DO... But when all is said and done. I love this man! He has put up with a lot from me. Some days I am sure that I could drive him up the wall... I am hoping on these days he remembers that I was the "gift" that God gave him. lolol

He called me out for posting about some of my girl friends. I want him to know that He holds a place in my heart that I can honestly say no one else has ever held. I believe that he always has. God set each of us aside for one another. Proves that God really does love us. As a pastor's wife, I have had lots of opportunity to share with teenage girls who are so anxious to find a "man". I have often said to many of these girls... if you don't find him in church at the altar with his hands raised in worship...RUN! With Christ at the center of a marriage, it can be long lasting... and LOVING!

Glen William... I love you with all my heart. Remember that when I make you nutso! When I push to have things done "my" way... When I am sure that your flesh wants to turn and run... My favorite place is anywhere you are. And you'll always find me there!

For everyone else reading...thanks for indulging me to share about my weekend...and the love of my life. Everyone needs to know they are special. I had to let my man know he is TOO!

G'nite

Do you just love Thursday?

I had to post something tonight...Thursday being my most favorite day of the week. You see, Thursday is the day my house has settled down after church Wednesday night...and we are looking forward to Friday together as a family.

For those of you who have been keeping up with the kids, Caleb is thriving in our home school situation. He is taking on work that is above his grade level, and he is excited about it! LOVE THAT! How often do you meet a teenager that is excited about learning. He was teasing me today about some books we had ordered from the library. He was challenging me to read more! (And I love to read)LOL. Who would have thought?

If all goes well, we may add Kelsey to the mix. But I am praying about that. I don't want to jump into it and then get overwhelmed with both kids. But we'll see. I want the absolute best for them.

Another update for you is about our ladies meetings. This is more than just a "typical" ladies meeting. We are meeting in a small group type setting... with a bible study each week...and then on to whatever "business" the ladies are in the middle of. Right now we are planning a luau fellowship for the church. Having all of these hands to help has been wonderful! I don't feel overwhelmed with it. And I would say that we have done 80% of the preparation work. I love it when a plan comes together. Thanks to our ladies... having the 12 or 13 other people help...makes this fun!

In this group, we have been learning about becoming a mirror image of Christ. That we reflect him to the world... and it is about time that we start looking a little closer at each of our lives to be sure that we are really representing Christ. I believe with all that I am our time is growing short. It is time that each of us become accountable for the picture that we portray in our churches... in our friendships... in our families.

I can't say that I trust God, and yet go about questioning everything that happens in my life. I either trust or I don't. I can't say that I have yielded my own will, and keep on making decisions that are best for my flesh and not my spirit. God isn't looking for the bride that is almost ready... He is coming for a bride without spot or wrinkle. It is time that the body of Christ push in closer, reach a little higher...and purge themselves of anything that will keep them from moving forward.

I have had several conversations with a good friend about God calling us to a higher plain. Where our feet haven't walked yet. It is hard to see that through the midst of trials and circumstances that are the catalyst for such change, God is molding and shaping as only the Potter can. Making us new... refining... creating the vessel that will be emptied and filled and emptied and filled and emptied again for his glory.

That is my heart's desire. I know that I have learned some valuable lessons in this year.
  1. This life is about me and Jesus. All of the other stuff is what we make of it.
  2. I am not defined by the job I hold. As a matter of fact, the things that used to really make me crazy in this area, I can say have been changed.
  3. No human being has the right to "stir my pot" If someone comes to me with something that is not edifying or in loving correction, then I need to realize their intention... and leave it where it belongs.
  4. That CHOICE is more than I ever thought it was. Knee jerk reactions are unacceptable in a Christian walk.
  5. Selfishness is one of the most unattractive traits someone can display. I have had to sever ties with some who were self absorbed.
  6. My time reading and studying the Word are more vital than I ever could have imagined. It is in quiet time with the God of all creation... I can change and be transformed by the renewing of my mind.
  7. Priority in this world is UPSIDE DOWN. It isn't about the THINGS... They will one day be long gone.
  8. Everything that we do is done before God. There is no fooling him. Our motives aren't hidden from Him. Read this passage from 1Corinthians Chp 3. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. 14If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames. 16Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? 17If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple.
  9. God isn't waiting for us to mess things up. He is waiting for us to be better than we were. He is waiting for us to yield ourselves enough so that He can take the reigns and lead and guide us into the places he wants us to go.
  10. God loves me. Even who I was a year ago. He loved me then... He loves me now. And He is proud of the changes that I have allowed Him to make.

It is my prayer that they continue. That I become the woman that he called me to be when I gave my heart to him as a little girl.

This post isn't about boasting. This is about allowing others to see that even after 30 years of "church", change is required. If we think we have arrived, and that we are "ok"... that speaks volumes about the condition of the heart.

Be encouraged. God hasn't abandoned you to your own devices. He is there... working... waiting... for US to come up to higher ground.

Have a great day!

Our love to ALL!

More than I realized...

It must be that some of you are sharing my blog address with people that you know. I have seen more people visiting, and they are searching for specific posts. I pray that they can see the growth that I have experienced since I began this whole phenomenon called "blogging". It isn't about a gripe session...and some of you have been gracious enough to allow me that. I pray that in my own vulnerability you have seen some of your own issues and been encouraged to embrace the changes that God expects out of us.

I have been walking in places that where I know that the Holy Spirit gently leads me so that I can get rid of the "yuck" that still resides in my flesh. I have to tell you in being quiet before God... I can see that he burns out the "dross." A refining fire. And while my health issues seems to be at the forefront of some of this, I believe that this is so much more. It is about taking my place in my husband's ministry. It is about being bold enough to share with people what I have learned in my time here... and I am embracing that more everyday.

I don't want to get stuck in a rut of "us 4 and no more." I need to be open to embrace the people that God is sending our way. I am learning that doing the same thing that I used to do... isn't enough. We need to push beyond our comfort zone. To be more than we thought we could be. To use the authority that is Christ has given and reach places that we didn't know we could. This isn't about me being "so good"; it is about realizing that all of us who call ourselves Christians are on the SAME journey. If we aren't lifting one another up then we aren't accomplishing Christ's commandments. And what does that mean to the Christian?

There are some folks who have worn the "tag" Christian for years. And yet the fruits of the spirit are not evident in their lives. They will never reach the fullness of God's will for them. They want to march around the same issues that have plagued them for years...and refuse to embrace correction or change. I refuse to be a "right" fighter. Do you know what I mean? A right fighter is someone who takes the moral high ground and insists that they are right...even when they aren't. They can stand and say God blesses me and so I must be in God's will. And truth be told, God blesses us because we serve a GOOD God. One who loves us... A God who wants us to be better than we were yesterday. And because WE love him, we need to become the mirror image of Christ. To be anything less... is to never know God's full potential for your life, for your marriage, for your future.

We need to take off the paradigms that we look at the world through and ask God to replace our vision of things. We need to see things the way that Jesus would. What would we think of a Christ who snickered at the clothes someone wore... or the weight that they carry... or the flaws they openly display? I don't know about you...but that is taking away everything that I love about being a Christ follower.

So for anyone that I have done this to or with...Shame on me. I am sorry. Deeply sorry for any of Christ's beloved that I didn't defend like I would my own natural brothers. If I didn't give one of the hurting their time to be heard, I pray that God will give me the opportunity to make it up to them.

Lord, help me to be the WOMAN that you know I can be. Help me to not get caught up in the things that the enemy would use to destroy my witness. That everyone who reads my blog or happens upon it, that they would apply the things that are written here to their own hearts and allow the change that you want in each of us.

Good Night all... talk to ya next time!

Aye! What a headache!

So I am sure that there are bunches and bunches of people out there that have headaches. I have always had them. I get them when I am stressed...I get them when I don't get enough sleep...I get them when the sun shines...I get them when it rains... Are you seeing the issue? I have them a lot.

In sitting and thinking about things today, I don't know if I can remember a day when I really felt good. It has been so long. Some days are better than others. I just would like to see a few that are REALLY good. So if any of you are praying out there...could you just pray for some good days for me? I need 'em. So many things that I would like to be doing, and just don't because of the way that I feel.

I also need to take a minute to thank my friends. You are so good to me. You listen to me and MY issues... You pray for me when you probably think I would be better served in the loony bin! :) You are just there to be MY friends. I don't want a day to go by that you aren't sure that I am grateful for you. For my scrap girls... who I can be so real with...and you still call or listen to me rant for 2 hours! Thanks! For Joyce, who helps me accomplish the things that I need to accomplish. She has been such a blessing. Patti... know that distance doesn't keep you out of my heart or off of my mind. I love that you trust me. Jules, you too! I hope that you know that love runs deeper than our current circumstances...and I love you. For my Mom, who is my friend too. Her unconditional love has been a constant in my 35 years. She has loved me when I was sure no one else did or could. For those that are just getting to know me and my idiosyncrasies. Be patient... there is sanity in there somewhere...it is like a treasure, you have to look to find it!

And these are just the ladies. Please know that this is not the exhaustive list of people that I consider my friends... I just have been reflecting on the fact that God has blessed this displaced NY'er. I don't ever want to forget the people who SHOW their love to us. Talk is cheap. I am talking about a demonstrative love. One where you know that it is real. I appreciate these people because they SHOW their love. I hope that in some way I have been a friend to all of you as well... by some action or call...or email...or sharing a stamp set...(lol) something that is tangible so that you know that I do care about each of you.

I have heard it said many times that gratitude unexpressed in ingratitude. So many times we get caught up in what WE have going on...and forget to be about the most important things in this world. It is all about family...friends... Building relationships that allow you to not feel alone. To have someone that you can reach out to when you need an ear... or a stamp pad...or a meal prepared.

So while my head is aching tonight... know that I am grateful for each of you in my life. The role that you play was God ordained for you to star in. He gave each of you to me so that I could be blessed..and in turn bless you and/or someone else.

For all of you who read my blog, (and my audience is small) know that I am grateful for you. I am grateful to you, but more than that I am grateful to God...He chose to give each of you to me. And He couldn't have done a better job!

Ok.. Early Saturday II

One would think that I would be in bed now. One would think that it being the wee hours of the morning, I would be ready to lay my head on a pillow and just REST. But not this body. I am up and my mind just goes from one thing to the next. Sleep will not find me when I am like this.

I have had one of "those weeks". It is probably why I haven't written for days. I am UNCOMFORTABLE! I hate that feeling. Where my skin isn't quite where I belong. Some times I am perfectly content, and the next I am thinking about 28 other things that will satisfy whatever is lacking in me.

Next week we mark a full year that I have been sick. Have I mentioned that I am ready for it to be over? I am ready to be able to go INTO my closet and bend and get a pair of shoes without getting nauseated. (I really struggle in small spaces) Or to clean a full room without having to take a pill to just make it through half of the work?

I am still not taking any of the prescription drugs except an occasional phenergan. Other than that I manage the vertigo and the fibro with over the counter stuff. Not that it is any better for me, but 90% of the time I wouldn't get up and go if I didn't have some kind of appointment or task at hand. Ok...enough about being sick. That will depress me...and let's be honest, I am SO over it!

I want to get back to the place I was just a few weeks ago. Where I felt strong in my spirit. Where I knew that what I was hearing was just for me...and was straight from the Lord. I don't know that I feel down, I just feel like I am striking on the off-beat. Does that make sense? Like some how my steps, that were an easy stride, have become an awkward dance. One where I don't know the routine.

It is in times like this that I have to take the time to remind myself of ALL of the things that I am 100% sure of.

  1. That God loves me
  2. That He knows about everything I think and feel
  3. That He sees my HEART, when men have no idea
  4. That when my flesh is not cooperating, my spirit can rise above it.
  5. That EVERYTHING will be turned around for my good
  6. That He is ALWAYS on time, even when I am always late
  7. That He has every situation in his control
  8. That He won't allow ANYTHING to come my way that I can't bear
  9. That He has a plan that is better than anything I could even dream up
  10. That He didn't bring me to this place, to sit back and laugh at my failures. He is my biggest cheerleader....Coaxing me to RUN ...Run the race that is put before me. And to finish it with the grace and mercy he provides daily.
Maybe these are the things that I need to focus on. In dwelling on the things that I know for sure, I can find shelter from all the other stuff. You know what I mean, time to crucify the flesh so that the spirit can be victorious.

For anyone struggling, God knows right where you are too. He sees through all of the "stuff" down to the very soul...knowing even the intentions of your heart. He isn't throwing obstacles in your way. He is offering an strong arm to steady you as you have to step over those things in this journey. He is just waiting for us to CHOOSE to react differently than we did the last time... or CHOOSE to hold our tongue. Or CHOOSE to be patient and wait for his VERY best instead of settling on what we had planned. Or CHOOSE to not rely on our "feelings"but to remember that we serve a God who is more than able to work in all situations.

I am going to put this head on a pillow. Somehow I feel it will be a little easier to find some rest!!

Thanks all!

Early Saturday

We have just moved from Friday to Saturday. And I am awake to usher it in. Yeah, no reason why. Just me and the laptop up at our house. EVERYONE else has been in bed for hours. It is in the wee morning hours that I can almost hear my own thoughts recently.

Things are busy. With the weather breaking, things have a tendency to get added to the list of "things to do" After Glen spent a full day in the yard, things are looking much better around here. There is still some branches and leaves that need to be disposed of, but we are not looking like the ghetto anymore!! :)

Later this morning is the newcomers breakfast. We are expecting over 20 people. (I am telling you that we are seeing the church grow! It has been such a blessing) And then a FULL day of keeping the kids out of Glen's hair. Please know that we have been on spring break here. So having the kids home this week has been great...but I am READY to get them out from under my feet for a minute.

I am really up for some stamping. I keep saying that I am going to start posting my pictures of the cards and scrapbook pages that I have been doing, and yet, those cards end up going out in the mail without a snapshot being taken!

I did manage to take some pictures of Ethen Michael today. I was with him while his mommy was at work. His daddy is looking better, talking better...and is actually eating a little bit. Bryan has lost a lot of weight, but he looks good! I am anxious to see him finish up this antibiotic round to see how he feels without medicine on board. I pray that he is the picture of health. It will be so nice, for him, for Dawn and for Ethen. I'll post a picture when I get the new ones down loaded from the camera! He is the sweetest.

I was hoping to get some photos of the kids this week. But that didn't happen, and with the weather that is forcasted this weekend, it won't be happening this weekend either. I am going to try to do better about carrying my camera with me more. I need to take the time to capture more of our everyday life. It is during our everyday the most important things happen.

For those who now read my blog on a regular basis...know that I appreciate it. In re-reading some of it, I see myself changing. Funny, huh? I am sure that this is a season of change for me. Both because of my health issues, and work, but that stuff will take care of itself. God is dealing with me about the more important things. And I am in a place where I am ready.

Our love to all of you!!!

God's promises

I woke up yesterday morning... feeling bad. Just achy and miserable. I wandered to my computer to find that someone we know had lost her mom unexpectedly.

What a shock! A lady, younger than my own parents, had passed away leaving behind children, grand kids, a husband. Their near future was full of plans of visiting and spending time and loving.

I sent an email...letting her know that their family is in my thoughts and our prayers...but her situation brought more to mind than just your "normal" condolences.

My mind went to God's promises.

The Word of God contains so many promises. Ones that we need to learn to lean on...to stand on...to claim with the authority we have as servants of Christ. But our length of time on earth is not a promise. We have an appointed time to meet our Maker. This lady had hers. I will have mine. I am sure that there are some who would love to have just one more day with a mom or a grandma. I am sure that one more day would be filled with words of love and encouragement. Not remembering the bitter times, or the times when we failed each other.

What legacy are we leaving? Is it one that points to Christ? Is it one that only reminds people of the times that were bad, or hard? I know that God is revealing something new to me about the way we live our lives. Most of which is just for me. And I have to tell you, that learning this lesson, even though I have had to walk through some thorns to get to this place, is so good.

Compromise can not be a part of a Christian's walk. It is truly a walk of ALL or NONE. In an age when even CHURCHES are afraid to preach the truth, now is not the time to water it down to be sure it is palatable for all. It is what it is! No other book holds the power of life or death. There are things that scripture calls sin, and yet because it isn't politically correct...we don't mention those things from the pulpit. And yet, as stern as that seems, ALL of it is tempered in love.

How will they know unless someone goes to them in love to tell them it is wrong?

It seems that the buzz word for this type of thing is judgement. This isn't about judging others. It is about looking in our own hearts and firming up the things that we believe. And then living a life that is attractive to the lost and hurting...and being open to sharing ALL of us with others. Not just the pretty face that we sometimes put on for "outsiders" to see.

I pray that when it is my time, or God calls home someone that I love, our time together will be filled with stories of God's grace and goodness. I hope that the times of pain or harsh words are forgiven and truly forgotten. I pray that in loss, the joy of knowing someone has made it home, is a comfort.

That is my prayer for this family.
